چکیده

This thesis shows the development process of JPEG2000 content based image retrieval (CBIR) methods. First, foundations of CBIR as well as JPEG2000 are explained and existing solutions are examined. On this basis, own approaches are developed. Wavelet coefficients that are extracted from JPEG2000 are used to create different feature sets. To facilitate the development process, the Java program ”JP2FeatureFinder” is developed. The distribution of wavelet subband coefficients is modelled as histogram, Generalized Gaussian Density (GGD) and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). In order to decide which images are similar to each other, these distributions are compared using Histogram Intersection (HI) and the Kullback-Leibler Divergence (KLD). Color and texture are treated separately. When merging the individual results, they can be weighted independently. A plug-in for the GNU Image Finding Tool (GIFT) is implemented. Using the GIFT framework, the retrieval methods developed are tested with the TSR2500 image collection consisting of images from the Swiss TV channel Télévision Suisse Romande and ground truth data from the Viper group of the University of Geneva.

A C++ Toolkit for JPEG Compressed Domain Image Retrieval

Since there are few open image retrieval toolkits available, researchers in the field are often forced to re-implement existing algorithms in order to perform a comparative evaluation. None of the existing toolkits support retrieval of JPEG images directly in the compressed domain. The authors’ aim is therefore to facilitate the use of compressed domain image retrieval techniques as well as eas...

Grading Image Retrieval Based on DCT and DWT Compressed Domains Using Low-Level Features

—Nowadays, the majority of images are in JPEG and MPEG compressed formats, and JPEG2000 is considered to be the next generation of compression standard due to the highperformance of discrete wavelet transform (DWT). It is timeconsuming and occupies too much memory in conventional image retrieval ways. In order to solve these problems, we use grading retrieval techniques to implement image retr...

Content-based Retrieval of Compressed Images

Content-based image retrieval allows search for pictures in large image databases without keyword or text annotations. Much progress has been made in deriving useful image features with most of these features being extracted from (uncompressed) pixel data. However, the vast majority of images today are stored in compressed form due to limitations in terms of storage and bandwidth resources. In ...

Efficient and effective JPEG compressed domain image retrieval

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) has been an active research area for more than two decades. However, while almost all images are stored in compressed form, the vast majority of CBIR algorithms operate in the (uncompressed) pixel domain. This not only leads to a computational overhead for feature calculation, it can also be demonstrated that image compression has a negative effect on retrie...
